Hapjeong is known for all its super cute cafes and restaurants, but there’s also a growing artisan bakery scene there. 오븐과 주전자 Bakery (translates to ‘Oven & Tea Kettle’) is a humble little bread shop in a really calm part of Hapjeong. I first got to know this bakery last year because they were also in the Window Bakery Collection event and the owner is really kind and he makes delicious bread.  I actually hadn’t planned on going to this bakery last week, but I had to run some errands around Hapjeong and happened to pass by the bakery so I popped in. Sadly, I didn’t get half as many photos as I’d like so you’ll just have to check this place out for yourself! :)

The bakery is pretty small and they don’t sell a large bulk of items, but there’s quite a nice variety of goods, from sandwich breads and ciabatta buns, to croissants and chiffon cake. What’s great is that they use primarily Korea-grown wheat flour for their breads (local ingredients, yay) but I think they use some Bob’s Red Mill whole wheat flour too. They will also gladly point out the vegan items, and they understand English too so don’t hesitate to ask!

Do you ever just want to buy a baguette so you can walk around with it sticking out of a paper grocery bag like you’re in Paris?

The super nice owner and baker let me sneak in the back to take a few photos of him in action. Lucky me! Here he’s rolling some whole wheat dough in a mix of seeds for a delicious nutty crust. Sometimes I wish I were a bread baker because I want to be surrounded by the smell of freshly baked bread all day every day.

Ciabatta bread… my fave. And only 2,000 won each, so I stocked up!

Took a bite on-the-go. Can’t resist the fluffy.

Enjoyed another olive ciabatta bun at home with some mustardy sauce. Ahh bread…. All I can say is I’m so glad I don’t have gluten-intolerance! So good~~~
